{mama mia}

Wanna know a secret?
I can't keep one.
That's the secret.
Really.

So when I finished making these,
I had to share.
Even if they aren't {technically}
to be given away until next Sunday.

Mother's Day Charm Necklaces
w/ a charm for each of my kids.
A subtle, non-cheesy, tribute to my chickens.
Handmade by yours truly.

I didn't intend on just making one for myself,
are you nuts?

A few others will receive their own,
and I'm not naming any names
{but I have hammered a few}.

You know, the element of surprise and all.
Happy Mother's Day!

After a few inquiries
regarding these pictures {see post below}
from our camping trip this weekend,
I decided I'd better post
more pictures of the lap desks
that I made for the kids to use
on the long drive down.

Long story short, I couldn't find any at the store.
So a $3.50 pack of Walmart cookie sheets {3 sizes},
fabric scraps at home {skulls for Layne, pink for the girls},
and a hefty bag of batting later,
we left town with these.

I plan on refining the construction a little
and giving them another, less rushed, try soon.
And when I do, I'll post a full tutorial
so that your little ones can be as content
in the backseat for a long drive
as mine were this weekend.

They were lifesaving for lunch in the truck,
coloring millions of pictures,
reading books and searching through look-and-finds.
And even helped with a nap or two or three
{the soft side worked wonders}.

Just remember
that these pictures are post-trip, so
fingerprints should be ignored.

I won't lie,
it's been a rough week with this one.

She's a diva.
She's the oldest.
She's stubborn.
She's bossy.
She's a sass.
She's emotional.
She's impulsive.
She's a fighter.

Sunday was the end of a long week
of tantrums and me breaking down
exhausted from it all.

And then today I realized,
I could look at things in a different way.

She's a diva, but she's always entertaining.
She's the oldest, and she is a huge help.
She's stubborn, but she knows what she wants.
She's bossy, but she's not a follower.
She's a sass, and she won't be pushed around.
She's emotional, and she's empathetic and caring.
She's impulsive, but she lives in the moment and without fear.
She's a fighter; she stands up for herself and for others.

And I know, without a doubt, that
 I really am lucky to be her mom.

Even if there are days
I want to run away from home
just for a little while.

Here's to hoping this week will be
less dramatic and that I'll have
better perspective.

{chopped}

Thanks to the fabulous Dorothy,
my kids now look a little less wild.

Tatum took off about 2 inches and
is still complaining
that I wouldn't let her go shorter.

Layne got his signature shorty faux hawk
{thanks mostly in part to
the two swirlies in the back of his head
that make it near impossible to attempt
any other style besides}

And Hayden has returned
to the one cut that so perfectly
fits her sweet little face.
She's a-lined.

All so very cute.
They even let me blow dry it now!
